]]>Requirement gathering is very important to identify individual client needs, as well as to obtain the relevant information to help make an effective decision to support their direction and goals.
In response to our clients’ interests and problems, we are able to offer requirement gathering tailored solutions to fix their specific business needs. We will support our clients in making the most effective change they require.
Here are six simple ways to “Identify” client problems:
1. Get to understand the business. Identify the issues, find out what the business is about by getting an overview. Your client can tell you in depth what the business is about as you’re not an expert. This will give you the background information. It would be worth asking them to share their mission statement, if they don’t have one it may be worth asking them to create one to show the aims and values of the company.
Using some concepts such as: STEEPLE analysis, SWOT analysis, Porters Five Forces market analysis will help in obtaining the information. If you’re not familiar with these go to www.mindtools .com
2. Define the issues. Get to know the big issues and agree the top problem to resolve. Writing this as a problem statement which the client accepts needs to be looked at first supports the problem definition process to find the best solution.
3. Brainstorming ideas to implement. When you have the information you should be able to brainstorm around 10 ideas to implement. You may be able to pick the top 3 or 5 ideas by plotting them on a matrix using “easy to implement” and “potential value of outcome”.
4. Decide the top quick wins. Decide the easiest and most effective ideas to implement between each other. You’ll probably find the client will have many ideas that will come out after you focus their efforts into the market analysis. Don’t forget you may not be an expert in their company or their market but an expert in business management so you can support them by tapping into their knowledge and expertise.
5. Resolve the issues. Work through the solutions with the client and measure your progress. You may not be able to complete all but majority should work with the companies support.
6. Impact assess them. See the key improvements, reflect what has gone well and what has not. Using the “So what?” statement repeatedly can help you get down to all the relevant points to an implied fact.
As long as you have provided a lot of value to the clients, this may provide future referrals for repeated business.
